Free Preschool Tuition for Qualifying Families in the SGV
Rosemead Education Center (REC) is a private preschool in Rosemead, CA that has served the San Gabriel Valley since 1984. For families who meet eligibility requirements, tuition is fully covered at no cost.
This is not a public program or a Head Start center. REC is a licensed private school offering the same high-quality education to every enrolled child, whether tuition is covered through an assistance program or paid directly by the family.
What Qualifying Families Receive
When your family qualifies, your child receives everything a full-tuition student receives:
- Full-day care, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Age-appropriate curriculum for children ages 2 through 6
- Nutritious breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks at no extra cost (REC is a CACFP-enrolled site)
- Small class sizes with licensed, experienced teachers
- A safe, clean, well-maintained facility with outdoor play areas
There are no separate classes or reduced programs for families receiving tuition assistance. Every child is in the same classroom, with the same teachers, following the same curriculum.
Who Qualifies
Eligibility is based on four criteria:
- California residency — your family must reside in California
- Child’s age — your child must be between 2 and 6 years old
- Parent’s employment or education status — at least one parent must be employed, enrolled in school, or actively seeking employment
- Family income — your household income must fall within the program’s guidelines, based on family size
Income thresholds are more generous than many families expect. Eligibility is updated annually, so even if you checked before, your family’s situation may qualify now.
Family size is determined by your nuclear family only: parents and their dependent minor children. Grandparents, adult siblings, and other relatives living in the household are not counted toward family size.
